soars: ORIGINAL RESEARCH AT NCAR
Jenine McKoy spent the Summer 2013 at a program called "SOARS," where students conduct original research through NCAR (the National Center for Atmospheric Research) on the wind, sea, or sky. Her project focused on the electrified atmosphere, specifically on choosing parameters for conduction currents from electrified clouds in a global model. Electrified clouds, generally, are clouds that have become electrofied through cloud microphysics and updrafts. SOARS can be up to a five-summer program, and Jenine plans to return in future summers to either continue or change or research focus.
